About this Item: The pamphlet: London 'Publicity Arts Ltd W C'. No date circa Circular: On letterhead of the National Association of Training Corps for Girls Alfred House 24 Cromwell Place London S.W.7. June 1946, 1946. Both items in good condition, on lightly aged and creased paper. Pamphlet: 4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Covers printed in black, orange, red, yellow and blue. Both front and back covers edged in orange in distinctive Fougasse style. The front cover, with facsimile signature in top left-hand corner, depicts a young blonde girl, in red beret and spotted dress, standing puzzling on a diving board while clutching her handbag, above the text, in Fougasse's familiar lettering, 'Taking the Plunge?' The back cover shows a larger version of the girl's head, this time in an orange beret, with her body made into a question mark. The text of the central two pages begins: 'If you are busy getting ready to take the plunge into grown-up life (that is to say, if your age is anything from 14 to 18) do you know that there is an organization specially designed to help you to do so? | Its name is the National Association of Training Corps for Girls, and its aim is to help you to equip yourself in every possible way for the life ahead of you.' At foot of the second page: 'The National Association of Training Corps for Girls includes the Girls' Training Corps, the Women's Junior Air Corps, the Girls' Naval Training Corps, and (for under 15's) the Junior Girls' Training Corps.' Enclosure: 2pp., 12mo. Typewritten circular, printed in blue, with facsimile of Curlett's signature, as 'Director, National Association of Training Corps for Girls.' Begins: Dear Madam, | Did you enjoy Service life? | Did you find the experience and training of value? | Will you, now that you are taking the plunge into civilian life, consider offering your services to the National Association of Training Corps for Girls in order that the present and future members of the Association may profit by your training and experience?' Excessively scarce: no copies on COPAC or OCLC WorldCat, or in the collection of the Imperial War Museum. (An example of a variant has been discovered, with printed text on the front cover, mounted on board.) From a small archive of material belonging to Daphne Kayton of the Royal Army Medical Corps.
