Book First Edition
Fine Binding. Condition: New. Barrett, Angela (illustrator). First Edition, First Impression. A new copy in Folio Society wrapping, as received directly from the publisher. First Folio edition, first impression. Relish the thrilling horror of 'Frankenstein' in this stunning illustrated edition from The Folio Society. Artist Angela Barrett has contributed eight ominously unsettling illustrations for this special collector's edition. Created in series with her remarkable illustrations for 'Dracula', each one is full of foreboding and set within an elaborate hand-drawn black-and-white border. Nine vignettes represent further aspects of the story, and Barrett?s work is completed with a striking binding design. Award-winning biographer Richard Holmes has contributed an exclusive introduction focusing on the scientific influences and cultural repercussions of the novel. There can be few books as well-known as Mary Shelley?s Frankenstein. Adapted for stage, film and radio over 100 times, this chilling gothic tale is thought by some to be the very first science-fiction novel. Written in 1816, when Shelley was just 18, her story of a hideous monster of superhuman strength is indebted to contemporary scientific experiments and philosophical debates and is as thought-provoking as it is thrilling. Bound in ice-blue cloth, blocked with a design by the artist. Set in Clifford with Operetta as display. 232 pages. Frontispiece and 7 full-page colour illustrations with silver and black & white borders, 9 black & white vignettes. Ribbon marker. Coloured page tops. Printed slipcase. 10'' x 6¾''. In mint condition as received directly from The Folio Society. Additional photos available on request or these may be viewed on my eBay listing. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Heavy/oversize. U.K. postage at default rate but overseas buyers may be asked for a little extra. Enquiries welcome. All orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed for, and fully insured.

Softcover. Condition: Fine. First Edition Thus, First Impression. Complete set of the Folio Collectables series published by The Folio Society in 2015 and 2016. All first printings and fine copies. The only minor flaw is with 'Huckleberry Finn'. A little too much glue was used at front and back, meaning the endpapers don't sit quite flat, and there is a little glue showing through the gutter of the white blank before the half-title page (see photo). All fine o/w and probably all unread. The Folio Society published these ten books in the Folio Collectables series in 2015 and 2016. They won best Brand/Series Identity at the #BBDP Awards in 2016. In Folio's words: "the series contains great works of fiction and non-fiction, elegantly designed and typeset, and presented in a pliable full-cloth binding which is as appealing to the touch as it is to the eye". Printed on Abbey Wove paper. Flexible boards. Illustrated in b/w by various artists. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Additional photos available on request or these may be viewed on my eBay listing. Heavy/oversize set. U.K. postage at default charge but overseas buyers will be asked for extra. All orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed-for, and insured.
