About this Item: Constable and Company Ltd, London.1942., 1942. 3rd impression VG/Good+ Translator's note-"Jacques" is literally a non de guerre: the young French soldier who has written this book has a wife and mother in occupied France, and his anonymity must be preserved. He had escaped, with fragments of his batallion, to England shortly before the Surrender, and made his choice to stay on and fight a battle that to most Frenchmen was already lost. The bulk of the book was written a few weeks later in a London hospital." First published in 1941. Beige card covers with dark blue and red border and blue lettering, complete with it's dust jacket. Very clean inside, slight paper damage to the bottom of the front endpaper and paste-down joint. Light bumps to the edges of the boards. The jacket is marked with wear to edges. Slightly cocked. A moving little book written with deep feeling. Size:14 x 10.5 cms. 138 pages. Seller Inventory # P2020
