About this Item: (No photographer's/printer's name given); Artist's signature in photo reads: Toby E Rosenthal, Munich 1874., 1874. An early, sepia-toned photographic illustration of an oil painting, mounted (pasted to a 8 1/8" x 12 1/8" sheet of card). This 1874 Rosenthal painting, features a young monk holding dishes, standing in front of an open window, and rather pensively staring at a partially opened drawer in the refectory table. Written on the back of the mounting card in pencil: "by Toby E Rosenthal Fruhling Mahut mich nict dass ich alleine Schlossen. Back of card shows some age-tanning, dusting; semi-glossy surface of photographic print is clean & with no nicks or scratches. This ca. 1880-1900 period photo-illustration might have been slightly trimmed down before mounting. Scarce item.
