About this Item: Roli Books, New Delhi, India, 2004. Hard Cover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. First Edition. Rajmata Gayatri Devi.Enduring Grace traces the life and times of one of the most admired icons of modern India. Educated in England, Switzerland and Shantiniketan, Gayatri Devi of Cooch Behar, ‘the princess from the east? became the third wife of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur. In a tradition-bound set-up, she participated in religious ceremonies, played tennis with male partners, went swimming and horse riding, and did not miss a single season of polo. She also took it upon herself to bring the women of Rajasthan out of the purdah. Vogue voted her as one of the Ten Most Beautiful Women in the World, and with time, the world also witnessed her political courage and her dignified acceptance of life’s vicissitudes—the loss of her only child Jagat, a five-month ordeal in Tihar Jail under Mrs Indira Gandhi’s regime? Rajmata Gayatri Devi is about the continuation of a charmed life despite all odds, about the grace with which a queen of the erstwhile Jaipur State today dons the mantle of the Rajmata or Queen Mother of Jaipur. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dharmendar Kanwar studied at the Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls Public School and went to university in Jaipur. She started her writing career immediately after finishing school and did campus reporting for youth magazines like Hi, Young People’s Newspaper, Junior Statesman and Youth Times. About this Item: Seagull Books, 2006. Softcover. Condition: New. First edition. ?She has probably done more long-term political good, in pioneering feminist and postcolonial studies within global academia, than almost any of her theoretical colleagues.? Terry Eagleton ?I do not want to get involved in judging whether people are reading me right or wrong because whatever they are doing, such a reading is possible. I think possessiveness about one?s work is not a good idea, first of all, and secondly, I don?t think my work is written in stone, I correct it all the time myself. Also, there are so many other things I haven?t read anyway, so reading other people?s writing on me and saying they were wrong . . . can you imagine what a waste of time that would be?? Controversial, challenging and outspoken, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is best known as a deconstructionist and post-colonial theorist, who chooses to describe herself as a ?para-disciplinary, ethical philosopher.? Her reputation was first made for her translation and preface to Jacques Derrida?s Of Grammatology (1976) and she has since rapidly developed an awe-inspiring track record in several areas, ranging from Feminism and Marxism to Literary Criticism and of course, Postcolonialism, building a reputation for being simultaneously at home and an outsider in many disciplines. The interviews collected in this volume reflect the international character of her intellectual engagement as, in her criss-crossings of the globe, she engages with activists, scholars and writers located in different cultural contexts, from America to India to Macedonia and China. About this Item: GRIN Publishing, Germany, 2010. Paperback. Condition: New. 1. Auflage.. Language: German . Seller Inventory # APC9783640576647

About this Item: Oxford University Press, 2014. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Analysing the range and the impact of Gayatri Chakavorty Spivak's approach to postcolonial studies, this book brings together the fields of conversations, questions, critiques, and subsequent responses by her regarding her influential work—A Critique of Postcolonial Reason: Toward a History of the Vanishing Present. Spivak's theories and methods have not only been used in the fields of cultural studies and philosophy of language, but have also been widely applied in the fields of anthropology and political studies. In this book, arguments on a range of subjects including feminist studies as well as the techniques of reading texts are brought forth by the contributors. They debate the implications of Spivak's theories in cultural studies, ethnography, and anthropology. The volume is a detailed guide to contemporary thought, and includes Gayatri Spivak's response to the issues and questions raised in the chapters by the contributors. While Purushottama Billimoria recounts the circumstances in which these thoughts came together, Dina Al-Kassim in her introduction to the volume contextualizes political movements and feminist thought. About this Item: Adhyayan Publishers, 2018. Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Adequate number of books on Gayatri Mantra are already available to the readers. Then why this new book on the same subject? This book is different from others in the following ways: First, it is a comprehensive and yet concise book covering almost all the relevant aspects on Gayatri mantra and meditation. Second, unlike some other books, it remains focused throughout only on the Gayatri Mantra and Gayatri Meditation alone; and it does not get astrayed on other aspects (not directly related to this mantra). The book covers only the spiritualistic aspects and NOT the ritualistic aspects of Gayatri Mantra. Every seeker and practioner of this Supreme Mantra will infinitely benefit if the chanting and meditation is done with ascetic discipline, according to the practical guidelines given in this book and with tremendous faith. A separate chapter has been dedicated on the research work done till date on this Maha Mantra. The final chapter is a genuine marketing effort as it explains various benefits of this Mantra to the chanters and meditators. A large number of original Sanskrit mantras, written in Devanagri as well as Roman scripts and their meanings (in English) have been included in order to give authenticity and scholasticism to this book. A sincere effort has been made to ensure that this book appeals equally well to the Vedic scholars, the seekers and the common people. The author believes that the sincerity and hard work put in writing this book on Gayatri Mantra, will result in making it a very popular and useful book among all its readers.
