About this Item: R.J. Dill, 1935. PAPERBACK. Condition: Good. First Edition. B079VWGDVR 1935 signed and inscribed limited edition (Copy 26 of 250), R.J. Dill (Spokane, Washington), 6 1/8 x 9 1/4 inches tall stapled paperbound in red covers, gilt lettering to front cover, xxvi, 98 pp. Slight soiling and moderate rubbing and edgewear to covers. Personally inscribed and signed on the blank front free-endpaper in the year and place of issue by the author, renowned American suffragette Rosalie Gardiner Jones (1883-1978), known as 'General Jones' because of her following, to reporter and feature writer Pauline Suing Bloom (1883-1940), founder of The Spokane Woman, a weekly magazine published in Spokane, Washington. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this scarce genealogy and family history. ~SSS~ The lives and descendants of Thomas and John Dill, the second and fourth sons of the emigrant (to Pennsylvania) ancestor Captain Mathew Dill (1698-1750), written by Rosalie Gardiner Jones (1883-1978), famed for her work for the suffrage cause. Jones was influenced in her beliefs about women's role in society from the 'Pankhursts,' who were British suffragettes. She organised marches similar to the 'Brown Women' march from Edinburgh to London some months before. Some of her most famous marches include her march to Albany, New York in December 1912, and the march to Washington D.C. in February 1913. On March 15, 1927, Jones married Clarence Dill, a Washington United States Senator whose family history is set forth in this volume. This marriage ended in divorce, which was widely publicized. Dill accused her of being an appalling wife and housekeeper and of embarrassing him constantly. After her divorce, Jones ran unsuccessfully for congressional office in November 1936 as a Democrat. Contents: Captain Mathew and Mary Dill and Family - James Dill, Thomas Dill, Col. Matthew Dill, Mary Dill, John Dill, Ann (Nancy) and Sarah Dill; Thomas Dill and Family; John Dill and Family; Appendix; Index. Seller Inventory # SSS-0281-8717

About this Item: Lancaster County, Pennsylvania PA Mount Joy, 1914. Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Sensational archive of handwritten diaries centered around the Brubaker family of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Twenty [20] books comprised of sixteen [16] handwritten diaries, three [3] small notebooks and one [1] published book with manuscript notes. The diaries are dated 1914, 1916, 1917, 1917, 1918, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1923, 1924, 1926, 1927 and 1927. On average the books are 80% full. There are four authors: J. Henry Brubaker has written 12 diaries and most certainly 2 of the 3 notebooks. His wife Anna has written one notebook in her maiden name [Groff] and daughters, Anna Ethel [3] and Susan Violet [1]. The Brubakers appear to have been prominent rural business people in the farm supply business. A huge family as evidenced by the copious genealogical notes for the Lancaster County area as the notebooks specifically and the diaries are a wealth of family names and the connections. Family names: Brubaker, Stauffer, Groff, Buckwalter, Lefever, Landis, Nissley, Shenk, Longnecker, Neff, Dendlinger, Mtzler, Hurst, Erb, Hostetter, Shreiner, Lunks, Griders, Linchburger, Charles +++ The authors were very kind to fully identify family and relationships. Weather, economy, births, deaths, marriages and other local events showing the homefront during and after the first World War years. Overall in very good condition though one diary has some spine damage from nibbling. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Manuscript. Seller Inventory # 000625
