Adams's account of the experiences of New England's early settlers, including encounters with Native Americans; difficulties with the French; English tyranny; religious disputes; territorial advancement; war, and so forth. Hannah Adams (1755-1831)-a granddaughter of Henry Adams and distant cousin to John Adams-is celebrated as the first American woman to earn her living as a writer.
