Item Description: Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. This is a folio printing; very few editions of the Geneva Bible were printed in folio format. This example measures at 11.5" x 8" x 3.5". Margins are adequate, but not wide. Boards believed original. Note the very old strap repairs. The Bible was recently rebacked in a conservative but serviceable style. I have collated the entire book and believe it to be complete except for the original fly leaves and a map which should have been located immediately in front of the New Testament. Includes the Apocrypha. The first ten leaves have been remargined or mounted, with some loss of text. There is light to moderate soiling throughout, moreso with the first and last few gatherings of course. The last gathering or two in the "Psalmes of David in Meeter" have weak gutters, but all pages are still quite attached. Despite the faults, this is a very pleasing and readable nearly complete copy of a book that is normally found incomplete or in fragments. Herbert #225. Bookseller Inventory # 001691

Item Description: Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. This is the last Geneva Bible printed in England; produced five years after the first edition of the King James version, it brings to an end the printing of Puritan Bibles in that country and marks the close of the Geneva version's era of supremacy. This is a black-letter folio edition, illustrated with a handful of in-text woodcuts (including the Ark and its paraphernalia, and charts of consanguinity). The copy consists essentially of the Old Testament and some additional matter; it lacks two of the four preliminary leaves (including the title-page, publication information being provided by the colophon) and it also lacks the Apocrypha and New Testament. It begins with "Of the incomparable treasure of the holy Scriptures"; the "Briefe Table of the interpretation of the proper names which are chiefly found in the Olde Testament" and the "Table of the principall things that are conteined in the Bible, after the order of the Alphabet" are both present. Full later mottled calf, covers framed in double blind fillets and fleuron roll; spine with raised bands, blind-tooled compartment decorations, and gilt-stamped title and date; incomplete, with title-page, Apocrypha, and N.T. lacking. Binding rubbed/bumped at stress points, one compartment scuffed. Front free endpaper, first text page, and several others institutionally pressure-stamped; first page with rubber-stamped numeral in lower margin and early inked annotation regarding date of printing. Front free endpaper with affixed slips documenting gift donation in 1955, and with inked annotation regarding date; back pastedown showing traces of now-absent pocket. Tattering to first leaves not reaching text, and first one with recent repairs, second one with area of loss to upper outer portion affecting a border and ten lines of text, third one with central tear (touching woodcut map) repaired some time ago with tape, four leaves each with short tear from lower margin without loss, one leaf with lower outer corner torn away with partial loss of shouldernotes and image caption, final index leaf with hole affecting six lines. Expectable sorts of age-toning, dust-soiling, and light spotting/staining, only; lower outer corners of first quarter waterstained (often faintly). In sum a survivor; "breeches" in Genesis underlined in ink. Bookseller Inventory # 000840

Item Description: Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. The date 1495 is a most interesting mistake and, though a mistake, is quite collectable. No other Bible in English has a proper printed date prior to 1500. Many copies of this printing have had the NT title removed, often for framing. The general title (not present in this copy). was dated, correctly, 1594. This is Herbert's # 219. The Bible remains a survivor, nicely rebound c1820 in plain marbled leather, the spine with gilt rule and titling. Bible measures approximately 9" x 6.5". The interior retains the engraved title page for the New Testament, although missing the New Testament as well as the book of common prayer preceding it and the whole book of Psalms at the rear as well. Text in English Black Letter with various initials and printers devices throughout. Bible begins with a fragment of the Book of Common Prayer, starting on leaf C, missing all before, but remaining complete afterwards. The Bible is printed in Black letter font in English, two columns with frequent notes and marginal commentary, as well as great woodcut devices. End of the book contains what appears to be a family history (Gattersall?). Bookseller Inventory # 001698

Item Description: Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Splendid folio Geneva bible, published in London by Robert Barker. General title missing, but New Testament title has date 1611 and colophon at end has date 1612. Begins with Genesis chapter 11, missing all leaves prior to that. First leaf very damaged. Rest of text generally good though a few leaves have segments missing that are in a few cases are replaced in manuscript. About a dozen leaves are defective-- for example, loss to pg 362, last leaf of Malachi and to pg 5 of New Testament. Also some staining but most leaves in nice condition and defects certainly do not overwhelm the book. A few illustrations, including a map. Some old manuscript material at front and back and one leaf of manuscript inserted. Apocrypha present. Old Testament ends leaf 444, New testament ends leaf 135, then 7 unnumbered leaves of two tables that follow New Testament. Then incomplete book of Psalms. Some staining and noted defects but overall very presentable. Old board with attractive recent re-back. Bookseller Inventory # 001704
