Near Fine, with lean to spine, in a Near Fine dust jacket with light rubbing and fading to spine, light edge wear with several short tears, and light staining visible at the bottom edge of the rear flap and blank verso of the rear panel. An account of Fossey's research of gorillas at the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda, which she founded on the cold, dark, extremely muddy slopes on the Virunga Volcanoes. A prominent primatologist and an inspiration to conservationists worldwide, it is thought that her opposition to poaching led to her brutal murder in 1985, two years after the publication of this book. The Karisoke Research Center carries on, to this day. This book served as the basis for the 1988 film of the same name, starring Sigourney Weaver.

Includes a handwritten letter in original envelope, addressed to previous owner - written and signed by Dian Fossey. Contents are unmarked with some b/w illustrations and photos. Tightly bound with securely attached hinges. Pictorial grey boards with dark blue cloth spine are pointed with foxing along text-block and on endpapers. Jacket is bright and remains unclipped with faint edge wear. Also comes with a few original newspaper clippings tucked inside about Fossey and her death. Please note, this letter is NOT authenticated but appears to be genuine. The last photo is *solely* a reference picture to compare signatures and demonstrate the resemblance - not apart of this book.
