About this Item: Coward-McCann, NY, 1944. Orig Burgundy Cloth w/ Gilt. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Plus (Brodarted). First American Edition Thus. This 502 page increasingly sought-after FIRST AMERICAN EDITION is proudly presented in both the publisher's original binding and original dustwrapper. This binding with bright gilt titling to spine is tight and square with mild patch of discoloraton to bottom right corner of front board. The jacket has very mild, almost unnoticeable, chipping along edges, but is now smoothed and protected by professionally fitted and applied Brodart mylar. Former female owners name and address neatly penned on first blank flyleaf serves only to enhance the nostalgia and realism of the awesomely romantic drama within. Indeed, after deserting from the British Navy and settling in New Zealand, a young sailor sends for his so mysterious but always present lady love, but gets her delightfully promiscuouis sister as well. The journey includes exciting depictions of tidal waves and earthquakes. In 1947 this story was also made into an exciting Academy Award Nominated film starring Lana Turner, Van Heflin, Donna Reed, Richard Hart, and Edmund Gwenn, and directed by Victor Saville who is said to have used the storyline to seduce Lana Turner on a very regular basis in her very own dressing room complete with a strategically located hidden 8mm color camera he had installed without her knowing. But enough said of select offerings which take on a life of their own and speak so very loudly for themselves. Read to learn and enjoy; go forth to share and enjoin.as the Author Liz, and the Publisher Cowie, and most recently of all, how the righteously observant followers of Michael Julian Hirschfeld Galleries would both collectively since 1931 and altruistically into the future wish you to. Period. Case closed. Symbiotically beneficial acquisition pending your enlightened and self-actualized decision. Enjoy and then Deploy, as an elder Mark Twain reportedly once said while visiting the open-air riverfront reading and lecturing tent of a very youthful, but nevertheless wise Richard Hirschfeld. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover. Seller Inventory # 005777
