About this Item: Constable and Company. London., 1909. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Hardcover. Early 20th century binding: Brown leather spine with raised cords, gold lettering and decorations. Subtle and slightly faded gray marbled paper over boards. Gray endpapers. Some slight wear to parts of hinges, some fading to the leather (sunning) spine, small scuffs to a few of the raised cords. A nice binding despite these small signed of age; unpretentious and attractive. 325 pages. Title page dated 1909. No other dates. Printed on unusually thick paper - the book is nearly 3 inches thick. Illustrated by Arthur Rackham with 40 color plates, tipped in on thick paper, each with a tissue guard titled in red. All 40 plates present and in very good condition. 60 short stories by the Brothers Grimm, translated by Mrs. Edgar Lucas. No foxing, no marks, no previous ownership names. A very lovely, clean, copy. The paper on which it is printed is no longer bright white; but is uniformly a tone or two duller. (I suspect this is the case for all copies, from the chemical makeup of the paper itself). Plates are 5 x 6.57 inches, tipped in by their top edge. Brightly colored. Line drawings (black and white) in the text, as well. Book itself measures about 7.75 x 10 inches.
