The author, Lairesse, knew Rembrant and often interacted with him. This text is also mentioned in the famous Japanese book `Komo Zatsuwa`. Shiba Koukan, Aodo Denzen, Hokusai and other Japanese artists painting in the Western style were heavily influened by this text. It was also part of the `Nozoite Bikkuri Edo Kaiga` exhibition at the Suntory Art Gallery in Tokyo. vii, 434 p., 18 p., 40 p., 15 p. 65 leaves of copperplate engravings/illustrations.
