Jahrhunderts und auch sein überliefertes, in viele Sprachen übersetztes Schrifttum zeugt von seiner Wichtigkeit. Und dennoch wird sein Werk seit dem 18. Jahrhundert bis in die heutige Zeit hinein sehr unterschiedlich gewertet. Ja, er wird mitunter sogar für den Niedergang des goldenen Zeitalters der niederländischen Kunst, mit Rembrandt als Hauptakteur, verantwortlich gemacht. Ob dieses Urteil überhaupt zutrifft und was dazu führte, soll folgende Arbeit versuchen darzustellen. Hierfür wird hauptsächlich auf zwei Schriften zurückgegriffen, denn ihrer großen Verbreitung ist es zu verdanken, dass sie uns für solcherlei Untersuchungen auch heute noch zur Verfügung stehen: Grundlagen der Zeichenkunst von 1701, und das Große Mahler-Buch von 1707. Ferner werden zur Verdeutlichung Laisesses kunsttheoretischen Vorstellungen von seinem Werk und dem von Rembrandt kontrastiv gegenübergestellt.Neben dieser Primärliteratur werden vornehmlich drei umfangreiche Monographien von Lyckle de Vries und Alain Roy über Gérard de Lairesse für die Untersuchung in dieser Arbeit herangezogen. Zahlreiche Publikationen aus dem beginnenden 20. Jahrhundert können hier nur zum Teil verarbeitet werden, denn wie wir sehen werden, unterlagen nicht nur die Gemälde des Lairesse, sondern auch seine hinterlassenen Schriftwerke in den vergangenen Jahrhunderten unterschiedlichster Wertschätzung, doch dazu später mehr. Zunächst soll nun aber die Biografie des Protagonisten erläutert werden. 52 pp. Deutsch.

The author, Lairesse, knew Rembrant and often interacted with him. This text is also mentioned in the famous Japanese book `Komo Zatsuwa`. Shiba Koukan, Aodo Denzen, Hokusai and other Japanese artists painting in the Western style were heavily influened by this text.
