Enrico Davila (1576-1631) entered military service under Henry II of France, having been page to Henry's wife Catherine de Medici, and played a part in the wars described in these volumes. An English translation was made for Charles I of England by William Aylesbury, published as The Historie of the Civil Warres of France (1647). American statesman and political thinker John Adams wrote his last work of political theory, the Discourses on Davila, as an extended commentary on Davila's history of the French civil wars, following the example of Machiavelli's Discorsi on Livy's history of Rome. Venezia, 1630) di questa fortunata opera storica sulle guerre civili in Francia che ebbe numerose edizioni, circa 200,Ânel corso del Seicento e del Settecento, e fu tradotta in latino, spagnolo e francese. L'A. nacque a Piove di Sacco (Padova) nel 1576. Da giovinetto fu paggio di Caterina de' Medici a Parigi, partecipo' in seguito ad alcune battaglie e fu ferito ad Amiens.
