Free endpaper with watermark depicting grapes and B&C. , This book is illustrates the romantic Spanish story of Lara?s seven children, who were betrayed by their uncle and killed by the Moors. This story has inspired many ballads and plays. The painter Otto Vaenius (1556-1629) was also a draughtsman and humanist active primarily in Antwerp and Brussels in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century. He is known for running a large studio in Antwerp, producing several emblem books, and for being, from 1594 until 1598, Peter Paul Ruben?s teacher. The engraver Antonio Tempesta (1555-1630) was a point of connection between Baroque Rome and the culture of Antwerp. Born in Florence, he enrolled in the Florentine Accademia della Arti del Disegno in 1576.
