Due volumi in-4°, due parti, ciascuna con proprio frontespizio; I: pp. (4), 840, (36); II: pp. 320, (16). Tipica legatura moderna da biblioteca in percaline marrone con titolo in oro al dorso (ex libris Abbatiae De Monte S(anc)ti. Bernardi). Nei due frontespizi ritratto dell’autore in medaglione ovale. Testatine e iniziali silografiche. Testo in un elegante corsivo. Uno strappo restaurato senza perdita di testo a p. 155 del primo volume, una bruciatura con perdita di due lettere a p. 188, ma nel complesso bell’esemplare fresco di un’opera non comune nell’editio princeps. Ponderosa opera del Paruta che prosegue, come storiografo ufficiale della Serenissima, la Storia del Bembo narrando i fatti tra il 1513 e il 1553. Scrive il Cicogna che «non ha pari il Paruta, a giudizio di Foscarini, nelle storie antiche italiane, singolarmente per gli ammaestramenti civili instillati con mirabile accortezza nell’intero corpo della narrazione e provenienti da ricco fondo di dottrina in quella parte che riguarda i costumi degli uomini e dei governi». Nella quale in libri tre si contiene la guerra fatta dalla lega de' prencipi christiani contra Selino ottomano, per occasione del regno di Cipro. Paruta Paolo (1540-1598). Storico e politico. Storiografo ufficiale della Repubblica di Venezia dal 1579. Nato e morto a Venezia. "E' divisa in due parti: la prima ha la storia dal 1513 al 1551, e la seconda ha la narrazione della guerra di Cipro, " Cicogna p.76. La figura di Storico Ufficiale della Repubblica, dopo il Sabellico, venne resa una carica istituzionale all'interno dell'ordinamento della Serenissima; questi soli potevano accedere al'archivio dei documenti della Repubblica a Palazzo Ducale. Deux volumes in-4°, 2 ff.n.ch., 596 pp., 15 ff.n.ch.; 232 pp., 8 ff.n.ch., veau brun granité, dos à nerfs ornés, tranches rouges mouchetées (Reliure de l'époque). Important ouvrage, dont la première édition parut en 1605. La seconde partie est entièrement consacrée à la guerre de Chypre à la fin de laquelle les vénitiens durent céder l'île de Chypre aux Turcs après un long siège; ce qui entraina la création de la Sainte Ligue, à l'initiative du pape Pie V et la bataille de Lépante au cours de laquelle les forces navales ottomanes furent défaites par l'alliance des armées chrétiennes. Paolo Paruta, dont le portrait gravé en taille-douce figure sur le titre du premier tome, était un homme politique et écrivain vénitien; il fut nommé en 1579 historiographe officiel de la république de Venise.
