Two volumes bound in one. Contemporary speckled calf, rebacked with original spine laid down. Spine in 6 compartments, title in gilt to morocco label in second and remaining stamped elaborately with gilt floral designs. Boards lightly bumped and corners rounded. Some old abrasions to surface of leather on both boards. Small armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Previous owner's signature to title page of first volume. Some occasional red pencil underlining and pencil notations to margins (a single, short notation in pen) of first volume, else internally very clean. Margins trimmed, just touching edge of a few engraved plates. very good A guide to horsemanship, with a history of the discipline across different parts of the world and information on various breeds, horse tack and accessories, and the use of horses in war and sport. With 15 fine engraved plates, 2 additional engraved frontispieces, and in-text engraved head and tail pieces.
