The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), 42nd/73rd Foot, entered the Great War with two Regular, one Special Reserve (the 3rd) and four Territorial Force battalions (4th to 7th); by the end of the war the total had grown to twenty-two battalions (Becke), twenty-five according to the History's Foreword. Thirty thousand served in the Regiment in France, Belgium Salonika, Palestine and Mesopotamia and of these 8,390 died. The Regiment was awarded 69 Battle Honours, three VCs were won and a fourth was awarded to a BW officer in 1917 while he was commanding 1st Lincolns. Volume 3 covers the newer battalions (8th - 14th). A Facsimile reprint of the 1926 edition. Large and Heavy volume. Extra postage will be required for orders outside UK - please enquire in advance. Previous owner's label removed from title page otherwise Near Fine.

Hardcover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. Rubbed, scored, soiled and bumped black boards with gilt medal on front; the spine, lettered in gilt, rubbed on hinges with 40% of rear hinge detached. Internally front free endpaper absent and name and address in pencil on front pastedown; a mess menu glued across (split) gutter onto front board and half title (glue residue on reverse side). Title page marred by finger marks which appear intermittently thereafter though pages 50/51 badly stained. 'Notes' page at rear browned and semi-detached. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
