"This charming biography of Charles XII., King of Sweden from 1697 to 1718, and the dauntless foe of Peter the Great, of Russia, would be incomplete without a Memoir of the famous author M. De Voltaire. In order properly to appreciate its historical allusions, the reader must bear in mind that Voltaire wrote it about one hundred and thirty-six years ago, obtaining his facts mostly from eye-witnesses, and from friends of the youthful king." -------- from the Biographical Introduction to this Edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
