Item Description: The War Memorial Association, New York, 1912. Paperback. The sixteen fascicles complete with color and b&w plates as called for, paginated consecutively to p.512. Softbound in series format: staple-fastened 12x8.8 inch light blue cardstock wraps printed and decorated in dark blue; a fair-only set. While a half-dozen items are in very good shape, perhaps another half-dozen are split along spinefold with front and back wraps detached (though present) and edgeworn; others show short splits. The concluding fascicle bears back-cover paint spatters and is gouged through the back with several small ragged holes affecting adjacent leaves; minor losses to text are accompanied by spots of old mildew. Originally issued in sixteen sections with sixteen separate color plates of "Great Commanders in Action and Famous Battle Scenes from the Painting of H.A. Ogden and Other Famous Artists of Military Subjects," published here in one volume. Quarto (12" x 9"), half-leather and black pebbled cloth over boards, gilt borders on front cover and ribbed bands and gilt title and decoration on spine. The book is printed on high quality glossy paper. Extremities are rubbed and the name of a former owner, with date (W.S. Willard, Oct. 29-1912), is stamped on the front free endpaper; otherwise fine.
