About this Item: Dunlop & Drennan, Kilmarnock, 1894. Pictorial Cloth. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: No dj. First Edition. Worn and atmospheric copy, with interesting association news clippings pasted to inner boards, e.g. an obituary of Miss Florence St Aubyn Brisbane, the last surviving member of the Ayrshire Brisbane family at Largs. There are detailed ink notes on blank leaves at rear, concerningthe Boswell's of Auchinleck, and vrious marginalia offering factual corrections to the text. The binding is shaky, front inner hinge re-inforced with library cloth tape, the rear hinge has scrim exposed and loose. One signature is extended, still held in place. Strong apine lean and spine ends frayed with minor loss. Overall though, who's complaining if the book has obviously received such extensive scholarly attention, good for another century yet. Dark blue variant of board colour, with Burns peristyle memorial darkly silhouetted against clear imaginitively laid-out title text and the spine retains shelf appeal. Size: 12mo.
