About this Item: Forgotten Books, United States, 2015. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Excerpt from A History and Genealogy of the Families of Bulloch, Stobo, De Veaux, Irvine, Douglass, Baillie, Lewis, Adams, Glen, Jones, Davis, Hunter: With a Genealogy of Branches of the Habersham, King, Stiles, Footman, Hewell, Turner, Stewart, Dunwody, Elliott, With Mention of the Families of Bryan, Bourke, Williams, Wylly, Woodbridge, and Many Other Families In presenting this work the writer feels that he has at least accomplished something - saved much that may be of use to those who desire to know something of their ancestry. We study the pedigree of animals and take care to preserve a fine race of them - then, why not look into the traits of mankind, and try to develop a fine, honorable, God-loving race; yet can we reasonably expect to do so unless we study its past history? History teaches us much of mankind in genera, genealogy in particular; and by its study we learn to emulate the good, true and noble in the race, and to steer clear of its defects, faults and vices. Again, to the physician it is invaluable, for he sees before him descendants of ancestors who had their vices, who had their excellent traits of character, and by a close scrutiny he can advise them against certain evil practices or against certain marriages, or help them to throw off inherited disease and avoid its continuance in their offspring. The author takes pride in saying that his little record is as near correct as it is possible to make it at this late day, and he has been careful to avoid flimsy traditions, taking only such as were of reliable source, and if any doubt exists, has stated by terms of qualification. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Trieste Publishing has a massive catalogue of classic book titles. Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing s titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1901 edition. Excerpt: . HABERSHAM Habersham seems to be but one variety of spelling the name, and Habershon, Haversham, Habergham, Habrinchsham, all appear to have been names derived from the ancient family of Habergham or de Habrincham. The highly honorable, ancient and prominent family of Habersham of Georgia descends from James Habersham, of Beverley, Yorkshire, England, who with his wife Elizabeth lived in that country, and had the following children: I. James Habersham, baptized February 25th, 1712; died February 26th, 1712. II. James Habersham, baptized June or January, 26th, 1715; went to Georgia. III. Elizabeth Habersham, married Ralph Clay. IV. Edward Habersham. V. George Habersham, died infant. VI. Margaret Habersham, died infant. VII. Joseph Habersham, went to Georgia with his brother. VIII. Margaret Habersham. James Habersham, died aged 61, second but eldest surviving son of James Habersham and Elizabeth his wife, who died in 1722, went to Georgia with his friend, the Rev. George Whitfield, in 1740, and with him went his brother Joseph, who seems to have died leaving no issue, and his nephew, Joseph Clay, founder of the Clay family of the coast of Georgia, and son of his sister, Elizabeth Habersham, wife of Ralph Clay, of England. . The Habershams of Georgia were among the foremost of our eminent families, furnishing to the service of the country statesmen, soldiers and professional men, merchants, planters and officers of the church; and so high were the services of this family that the State of Georgia named one of its counties Habersham, after Lieut. Col. Joseph Habersham. Let us take a glance at the various positions of honor, trust and patriotic offices held by this illustrious family, and then see if one can find anything to detract from its. About this Item: Forgotten Books, United States, 2015. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . This book usually ship within 10-15 business days and we will endeavor to dispatch orders quicker than this where possible. Brand New Book.
