Item Description: Thomas Dean and Son, Threadneedle Street, (1854), London, 1854. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. New Edition, Revised and Enlarged. No Date given - but the publisher's catalogues at the end give the date 1854, and as the First Edition of this work was 1840/41 I believe this catalogue date to be the correct published date. In the Original blind stamped decorated dark mauve boards with bright gilt titling and attractive bright gilt decoration to the spine of which the base colour is slightly faded (negligible). Titled in blind on the front and rear boards. There is some slight rubbing to the extremities and the corners are 'bumped', but for this date this is a really tight, crisp copy - inside and out. The front endpapers have details of other books in this series, and an old booksellers tiny yellow/black printed label in the top front corner (Catherall, Chester). The top page edge is toned (? Coloured or ingrained dust of ages? ) and the remaining page fore-edges are lightly browning o/w NO Inscriptions and very few Marks - and the book actually looks and feels almost unused! . (iv) + pp 5 - 270 pp + 41 pp (Questions on the History of Germany) + 14 pp (Catalogue of Juvenile Works published by Dean and Son; + 2pp Adverts on the rear endpapers for Dean & Son's Toy Books and Picture Books. 3 Fine b/w steel engravings (1 as Frontispiece) and a small b/w fold-out map of Germany (drawn and engraved by S. Clapp for Dean & Munday). Contents start with 'The Ancient Germans'; work through the varied history and peoples of Germany and including Hungary, Prussia and Austria - then Bohemia, Austria and 'Revolutions in Germany'; finishing with A 'Chronological Table and Index' and 'Questions on the History of Germany'. . Overall an Excellent Very Clean, Tight and Bright copy. At the time of listing I also have for sale a copy of ' The History of Norway, Sweden and Denmark.' also by Miss Corner in the same series - but a First Edition? (1840/41). Please enquire if interested. ; Miss Corner's Historical Library; 16mo 6" - 7" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 112032

Item Description: Gay Brothers & Co., New York, 1900. Cloth. Book Condition: Good Minus. Engravings (illustrator). First American Edition. Rare orginal (not a reprint) Comprehensive work on German history that was completed by a famous German historian and then translated and adapted by a well know American: Joseph H. Beale, A.M. Covering the early German life until the late 1800's. Full of engravings in excellent condition, these works themselves could be framed and hold a value probably higher than the book itself. Condition: Good minus, Black cloth boards have bumped and lightly frayed corners, the front and back covers have some moderate fading and stains, the gilt lettering on the spine and cover is mostly gone. The book is tight, the binding was high quality for it's time and is still tight. The marbled edge papers look good, the first few pages inside have mild signs of moisture at the top (very minor). Otherwise inside is very good. Email us for a picture, we ship fast. Size: Over Sized. Bookseller Inventory # 004166
