About this Item: Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, India, 1983. Hard Cover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. First Edition. The present work is based on an extensive and critical study of the historical literature of medieval India and provides fresh perspectives for its interpretation and analysis. The introductory chapter identifies different types of literature, political and non-political, available for reconstructing the history of medieval India. The author's views about historiographical concepts and conspectus of the medieval historians are original and thought-provoking. Holding the view that a study of the thought-process of a historian should precede the utilization of data supplied by him, the author has x-rayed the prejudices, predilections, motives, and objectives of Minhaj, Barani, Abul Fazl and others with remarkable insight and erudition. The author's psycho-historical method of analysis and interpretation makes the work extremely fascinating and informative. The author has drawn attention to the historical value of the table talks of the Sufi saints of medieval India, has highlighted the importance of historical literature produced during the reign of Akbar, has established the apocryphal nature of the so-called autobiography of Muhammad b. Tughluq, and has shown that the Futuhat-i-Firuz Shahi was an inscription and should not be taken as a complete exposition of the policies of Firoz Shah Tughluq. The work is a valuable addition to literature on medieval Indian Historiography. Printed Pages: 276. Size: 15 Cms x 23 Cms. Seller Inventory # 017554

About this Item: Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt Ltd, 2011. Hardcover. Condition: New. 5th or later edition. The writings of Medieval Indo-Muslim historians have been often interpreted, anachronistically, as providing, in retrospect, justification of the British Raj or of the positions of twentieth-century nationalist and anti-nationalist movements. Historians of Medieval India, written in the 1950s, analysed some of the medieval historians` own motives and presuppositions. A new preface to this republication recognizes the need to embrace developments in the `philosophy of language`, notably the contentions that Language does not simply express or reflect Meaning but actually produces it. The validity of some early criticisms by other modern historians of medieval India is also acknowledged. Perhaps the display, in an Indian edition, of the author`s assumptions in Historians of Medieval India may provide a measure of the freedom that Indian historians have achieved, 50 years after Political independence, from Westerner`s constructions of India`s past. Printed Pages: 161. Seller Inventory # 31743BV

About this Item: Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.╩, 1983. Hardcover. Condition: New. First. Seller Inventory # MRML-9788121501521

The introductory chapter identifies different types of literature, political and non-political, available for reconstructing the history of medieval India. The author`s views about historiographical concepts and conspectus of the medieval historians are original and thought-provoking. Holding the view that a study of the thought-process of a historian should precede the utilization of data supplied by him, the author has x-rayed the prejudices, predilections, motives, and objectives of Minhaj, Barani, Abul Fazl and others with remarkable insight and erudition. The author`s psycho-historical method of analysis and interpretation makes the work extremely fascinating and informative. Size: 15 x 23 cm. Book. Seller Inventory # 182BV
