John Johnstone. 1847., 1847. 12mo. 17.5cm, iv,294,24p., ads., folding frontis map coloured in outline, early black cross ribbed cloth, text slight foxed and or toned, the original map which is a bit wrinkled has been experty restored, small chip from the bottom left margin just touching the map border, book label of Dr. Franklin H. Hicks, a very good sound copy. (atl) Amicus shows two copes (one lacking map) T.P.L. 2798. Sabin 7195. Watters p831. James Robertson came to Nova Scotia in 1829 as a missionary for the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts and was for many years rector of the parish of Wilmot, N.S. He derived much of the information for this book from Haliburton's History and had, as well, access to the original minutes of the Presbyteries of Truro and Pictou. He also corresponded with and solicited contributions from many of the eminent churchmen of the time - Hugh Graham, one of the first missionaries to Nova Scotia, Dr. McGregor of Pictou, McCulloch, Ross, Waddell, Trotter, and the two Pattersons, R.S. and G. - a veritable who's who of anyone who had an impact on the religious life.
