About this Item: ReInk Books, 2017. Softcover. Condition: NEW. Reprinted from edition. NO changes have been made to the original text. This is NOT a retyped or an ocr'd reprint. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This print on demand book is printed on high quality acid-free paper. About this Item: R. R. Donnelley & Sons Co., Chicago, IL, 1909. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. 842pp, frontis, illus, maps. Expertly rebound. The history of the Ninth U.S. Infantry is fascinating. It is a unit that has fought in many of the battles that our nation has fought. Beginning in 1798 the Ninth Infantry was formed. It disbanded in 1800 and was reformed with the outbreak of the War of 1812. When that war ended the unit was again disbanded. With the Mexican-American War the unit was again recalled to duty. It served in the Battle of Chapultepec, Battle of Contreras, Battle of Molino del Rae. The Washington and Oregon territory Indian Wars were fought beginning in 1855. Among the wars fought was the Battle of Pine Creek which led to the Spokane - Coeur d'Alene- Paloos War and the Battle of Four Lakes. The Ninth fought during the Civil War. During the period from 1866 to 1869, elements of the Ninth were in the Snake War in Northern California and Oregon and they fought the Indians the Chemehuevi in Southern California. The Ninth was sent to China to battle the Chinese during the Boxer Rebellion and the China Relief Expedition. The Ninth Infantry fought in the Philippines, in World War 1 and in World War 2, Korea and in Vietnma, where they fought for four and a half years. In the 70's parts of the unit were assigned in South Korea and lost some troops to the North Koreans. The Fourth Battalion of the 9th Infantry was re-activated on 1 June 2006 and was assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division as a Stryker Brigade Combat Team. This is a nice copy of a unit that has served the country off and on during the early years and a current unit for over 215 years. A great addition to anyone collecting U.S. Military units. This is a very heave book and additional postage will be necessary. Seller Inventory # MC00062
