CLIP - BEING considerecl by the powers that be, too old to take an active part in any more wars, my attempts in September 1939 to rejoin the Army were rebuffed and I found myself, on ]anuary 22, 1940, drafted as Director of Administration of Canada s newly created War Supply Board, and, on April 9 of the same year, as Deputy Minister of the Boards successor, the Department of Munitions and Supply. This is briefly how it comes about that I am now writing a Preface to -the history of the Department, which my good friend Iack Kennedy has compiled. In the chapters that follow you will find the stories of the birth, growing pains, adolescence, manhood, decline and demise of most of the Branches, Con- trols, Crown Companies, etc. Which made up Munitions and Supply. As Deputy Minister, I had something to do with each of these. I commend this history to you as evidence of what free men and women can do when the chips are down. Seller Inventory # 010379
