About this Item: Spiral/Comb. Condition: New. No Jacket. Limited Edition Reprint. Early days in Waushara County, WI, are brought to life through a mix of colorful tales, factual data and bits of poetry in this unusual history, primarily taken from History of Waushara County by Ex-Judge George P. Sorensen, originally photocopied in 1932. We've added a brief excerpt from Wisconsin, a Guide to the Badger State (WPA 1941), and some old news clippings from Waushara Argus in the 1960s. Our resulting compilation is this 8.5" x 11" spiral-bound 49-page booklet, printed on 60 # opaque paper. The front cover is a parchtex card stock, protected with a vinyl sheet. Among the many subjects included are: a brief history of Wisconsin, Pioneer Days and early officials, Dispute over location of the county seat, First White Settlers, Fences, Cow Bells, Early schools and superintendents, Locking out a teacher, Mills, Hotels, the Saxeville Flag Raising and a commemorative poem, Jeff Davis' stolen bell, Murders, a feud, a lynching and other tragedies of pioneer days, Civil War volunteers, Wautoma, Redgranite, Saxeville, Wild Rose, Plainfield, Hancock, Coloma, Springwater, Poy Sippi, Aurora, Bloomfield, and Pine River, Elmer S. Huckins, Monuments, County Judges, Indians, Waushara County School officers and directors 1932-33, a biography and tributes to Judge Sorensen, Welsh settlers, Gad Jones -- a lawyer's early recollections, another version of the lynching, the naming of Leola Township and the town of Saxeville, Eleanor Willet Van Horn -- recollections of a pioneer wife.
