Item Description: Kegan Paul, Trench & Co., London, 1883. Original Cloth. Book Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A lovely copy of this six volume set of this classic work on the History of Rome. Uniformly bound in blue cloth which has embossed pictures of the boards and gilt embossed lettering to the spine. Ilustrated with numeorus b/w plates and illustrations throughout all volumes and also illustrated with several colour plates with tissue guards. A couple of fold out maps. All volumes have light foxing to the fore edges, half title and title page and scattered to the first few and last few pages of the volumes. Volume I - bumps to the head and tail of the spine and light rubbing to the board corners. Neat ink presentation inscription to the head of the half title page. Volume II - bump to the head of the spine and a light bump to two corners. The other two corners are lightly rubbed. There are two short tears to the front edge of the half title page with associated creasing. Volume III - bump to the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine has been lightly turned in. One corner bumped and three corners lightly rubbed. Volume IV - bump to the head of the spine and light bumps to the two lower corners. The other two corners are lightly turned in and there is slight rubbing to the board edges and slight soiling to the boards. Volume V - bump to the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine is lightly tunred in. Light bump to one corner and light rubbing to the other corners. Volume VI - bump to the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine also lightly turned in. Light bumps to two corners and light soiling to the rear board. The top corner of the front end paper has been lightly turned, leaving a neat crease. The volumes are clean and tight. A very good set. Shipping from the UK. Bookseller Inventory # 218627
