About this Item: Country of Stephenson, Freeport, Illinois, 1972. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. SIGNED BY BOTH EDITORS: INSCRIBED BY BARRETT as follows: "To Doris Best-- / Mary X. Barrett." AND SIGNED BY KEISTER. Thick 4to. (30 cm.) [16]1-679p. Illustrated with 35 color captioned photos and one color map at the center of the volume and profusely illustrated with black and white captioned photos and an occasional drawing throughout. Index. Lists of contributors and editors in the front matter. Endpapers are maps. Green cloth stamped in gilt letters on the front cover and the spine. Book has three neat notations in the margins relating to Doris Best, a contributor to this book and the one to whom it is inscribed, and underlined names (only) of several other Bests, else fine with bright gilt and no other internal markings. Dust jacket shows just a bit of wear at the corners but is clean and bright with no tears. Miss Doris Best, to whom the book is inscribed by the Editor, is listed as one of the Contributors and beside her name in the list is the marginal notation "Aunt Doris". On p. 422, a Walter T. Best is listed as a dentist and beside his name is the marginal note "Brother of Albert J. Best." On p. 423 Walter T. Best is listed again with the marginal note "Uncle Walt Brother of Albert T. Best." Several other Bests have just their names only underlined where they appear in the narrative: Al Best, p. 633; Dr. Elmer Howard Best, p. 416; and Dr. S.J. Best, p. 427. Several other Bests appear in the index, but their names are not underlined in the text. It appears, then, that this book belonged to a child of Doris Best, which child refers to other Bests as "aunt" or "uncle", as the case may be. In any case, this large volume is a mine of genealogical information and for more than the Best families! Please NOTE: Extra postage may be required for this large and heavy book. Signed by both Editors. Seller Inventory # 006178
