Item Description: Home Art Picture & Book Co; Scull, Chicago, 1899. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Presumed first edition thus (no additional printings listed) . Original blue and gilt embossed pictorial cloth (eagke with American shield holding quill pen and sword) , foliate endpapers, approximately 7 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches, 667 pp, over 250 illustrations (full page and in-text drawings and a few photographs) . Hardcover, very good, no dustjacket. Corners bumped, and approximately 1x2 inch and three 1/8th to 1/2 inch drop marks on front board which have bled off some of the dye there, spine moderately faded, 1/2 inch tear at foot, seveal approximately 1/8th inch nicks at both head and foot. Internally, previous owner's gift inscription dated Decorative 25, 1899, 3/4 inch tear of first free front endpaper, 1/4 inch chip off lower corner of rear endpaper, lower corners of first few leaves creased, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked; probably never really read. Occasionally politically incorrect history of the USA, this one updated to include the results of the Spanish-American War. The color lithograph frontispiece ("Colonial Costumes") is bright and lovely, as are the three other color lithos ("American Uniforms in the Revolutionary War," "Confederate Uniforms" and "United States Uniforms in the Civil War").
