At the time of his death. Prof. Tenney was on his way west to act as leader of the Williams Rocky mountain expedition. He made contributions to " The Popular Science Monthly " and other similar periodicals, and published "Geology for Teachers, Classes, and Private Students" (Philadelphia, 1859); "A Manual of Zoology " (New York. 1805); "Elements of Zoology" (1875); and, with Mrs. Tenney, "Natural History of Animals " (1800).- His wife, Abby Amy Gove, was the author of "Pictures and Stories of Animals for the Little Ones at Home "(6 vols. New York, 1808), and a "New Game of Natural History" (Philadelphia, 1870). Green textured cloth with gilt titling and border on spine, gilt illustration on front, blind-stamped border front and back, brown end papers, book is illustrated with "Eight Chromoxylographic Plates and Numerous Woodcuts," 566 pages, publisher's advertising on last page, tiny bookbinders plate inside rear cover. Cover has light edge wear, light shelf wear, front cover nearly completely separated from spine cover, spine split at front and rear end papers, previous owner's name (dated 1891) in ink on end paper, binding shaky, some of the colour plates detached, foxing spots and occasionally other marks in text but on the whole, text is clean, cover colour and gilt bright. The leather outside the lower front hinge has split about 1" long. The leather outside both hinges is heavily worn. Front hinge is weak but holding; back hinge is VG. Gilt spine titles worn but legible. The book is ex-lib. with the usual markings, including the library stamp on most of the color plates. Half leather, marbled paper boards, spine banded with gilt decoration. Now heavily rubbed. Front board and spine detached from internal binding. 3cm tear to spine fold at front base. 1cm loss of leather top spine head. Title is impressed but has no gilt. Internally binding is tight. Plate xii tanned and lightly spotted, plate xliv foxed to margins, some odd spotting and marks throughout but generally clean. A Good copy. Bookseller Inventory # 20404
