Item Description: O. F. Brown, Boston, 1880. Full-Leather. Book Condition: Very Good. Illustrated (illustrator). Early Printing. This family Bible, from about 1880, contains genealogical records of the McGovern, Kehoe, and Furlong families of Salem and Beverly, Mass. It originally belonged to Anna Kehoe, who has inscribed the Bible both on the inner cover and on the frontpaper: "From Anna Kehoe / to her loving sister / Anne Eliza / August 2, 1882". Most of the genealogical entries concern Patrick F. McGovern and Anne Elizabeth Kehoe, who were married at Salem, Mass. on Sept. 27, 1894. A few entries concern the marriage of Patrick Furlong and Catherine Kehoe, who were married at Salem, Mass. on August 4, 1886, and their 3 children: Margerette Mary (1887), Catherine Josephine (1890 or 1891) and Thomas Edward Furlong (1892). About 20 births are recorded for the McGovern family, starting with Emmett F. McGovern on August 8, 1895. Patrick and Anne's childrens' births; Ernest Crofton McGovern (June 13, 1899) and Eva Louise McGovern (April 8, 1898). Edward Patrick McGovern on Oct. 17, 1905; Emmet's daughters; Anna M. (1916) and Virginia M. McGovern. Charlotte Claire McGovern (1918); Eillen F. McGovern (1926); the twins, Emmett Francis McGovern and Edward Crofton McGovern in 1921; additional births dated from 1924 and up are: Virginia, Kathleen, Eileen L., Edward L., Edward Patrick B., Maureen Edwina, Paul Thomas, Helen Elizabeth, Edwina Louise, and Thomas. All the births took place in Salem or Beverly, Mass. and the home street address is given in most of these records. About 11 dates of deaths are recorded starting with Anne Elizabeth Kehoe's parents, John Kehoe on July 18, 1886, and Catherine Kehoe on March 28, 1888. 2 of Catherine's sisters are recorded: Julie Kehoe on Nov. 9, 1889, and Mary Kehoe on Feb. 2, 1946 (born in 1859). Anne Kehoe died on Oct. 24, 1905, and Patrick F. McGovern on June 28, 1933. The last 2 records are the deaths of Edward P. McGovern on Oct. 27, 1968, and Emmet F. McGovern on March 29, 1969. The Bible has ornately decorated covers with well attached clasps. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 16159
