Item Description: James Nisbet & Co., London, 1877. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fair. No Jacket. VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book. "Home in the Holy Land" By Mrs. Finn (Elizabeth Anne Finn). Illustrator: E. Evans. This is the New Edition, published by James Nisbet & Co., London, 1877. 12mo, 17.5 cm x 12.6 cm x 3.7 cm, Red cloth-covered bevelled boards, Gilt embossed lettering & decoration on spine, Gilt & black embossed lettering & decoration on front cover, Clear embossed decorative framing on back cover, 4 Black & white illustration plates including a tissue-guarded Frontispiece, no dust-jacket. 520 pages. Weight: 546 Grams. CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However, there are 3 or 4 cracks between pages, including between pastedowns & endpapers at front & rear of book. Spine is sunken in, discoloured & marked, bumped & frayed either end, small split in cloth in middle, gilt a bit dull & worn away in places. Cover is discoloured, grubby round edges, some bumps, scuffs & scratches, gilt & decoration bright, edge wear. Corners are bumped & scuffed, one is frayed with board exposed. Top edge darkened, all edges tanned & foxed. Pastedowns & endpapers slightly marked, e.ps creased both ends of book. Ink annotation on front pastedown. Front e.p. & Frontispiece creased, and marked on their reverse, Frontis. has a small area of damage where plate has creasing & tears. Some pages & plates (very few) have creasing alongside spine, and/or light handling creases. Remnant of tiny pencil annotation in margin of p. 1. Pages 179 to 190 inc. have come away from top stitch. Plates are tanned & have smudges/foxing round edges. Page 269/270 has a tiny edge bump. Last page has tiny bumps. Light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout. VERY RARE ITEM, EXCELLENT CONDITION INSIDE!!! Full title: "Home in the Holy Land. A Tale Illustrating Customs and Incidents in Modern Jerusalem ". In this book, the Author Mrs. Finn tells of her life spent in Jerusalem where she wrote this volume. Illustrated with 4 black & white drawings on plates by E.
