First Edition
[James Bond Association] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (24 x 17cm), pp.128. Liberally illustrated with black and white photographs by Worth. Publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to spine. With the dust-jacket designed by Cameron Poulterl, priced at 18s. Jacket toned to spine, with rubbing, closed tears and a few chips to edges. Very good. Rather scarce. Fleming Bibliographer Jon Gilbert's copy. Starring as Cathy Gale in 'The Avengers' (1962-64), and co-starring with Sean Connery in 'Goldfinger' (1964), Blackman had a unique opportunity to promote the practice of martial arts for self-defence among women. Here she demonstrates a wide range of locks and throws suitable for seeing off larger and stronger assailants, accompanied with excellent images showing various men being beaten black-and-blue. Her judo partners here, brothers Joe and Doug Robinson, were both professional stuntmen. Joe Robinson (1927-2017) was a stunt arranger on several Bond films and played smuggler Peter Franks in 'Diamonds Are Forever' (1971).
