Pages clean and unmarked, including b&w photo and line drawing illustrations. Famed pamphlet devoted to Houdini's debunking of prominent Spiritualist "Margery," a Boston medium preying, Houdini felt, on people's grief. There was some speculation that she might be able to produce, under scientific observation, "conclusive psychic manifestations." As a result, she would win a $2500 prize from Scientific American magazine. Houdini, who had originally taken a positive interest in Spiritualism due to his friendship with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, set out to debunk Margery's abilities, due to the fact Scientific American didn't issue their findings on her work in a timely fashion. He published the pamphlet at his own expense. The pamphlet made less of an impression than Houdini hoped, despite his staging a dramatic expose at Symphony Hall in Boston the following year. Scientific American did finally deny Margery the prize, and Houdini incorporated his research and demonstrations into the last act of a one-man-show he debuted later that year. Thin Pamphlet.
