Item Description: Emereo Classics, Australia, 2012. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. This is a edition of Margaret Hunts 1884 translation of the *complete* Brothers Grimm (i.e., the 211-tale large edition, intended for adults and scholars). As such, the language is slightly archaic, and the text itself is lengthy, with the tradeoff that this version does contain the entire collection of stories in the forms the Grimms gave them. Thus, expect the language to be slightly different from what you might remember reading before (Little Red Riding Hood is here Little Red-Cap) and the stories may contain more crudity, violence, and (occasionally) anti-semitism than the versions most people are familiar with. Similarly, several stories normally expurgated from later editions (i.e., The Jew Among Thorns) are present in this collection. A little context: The Brothers Grimm were the first to make a significant scholarly attempt to collect the original versions of traditional folk tales, as told by ordinary people. They didnt always adhere perfectly to that dictum -- some of the stories they collected from print sources and educated, middle-class tale-tellers, not just the common folk -- but they were in many ways the first scholarly folklorists. They were also German nationalists, and their collections were intended to help foster a sense of German national identity and German virtues. This is a great collection of the Brothers Grimms tales, all 211 of them. Bookseller Inventory # APC9781486145430

Item Description: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2017. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Household Tales by the Brothers Grimm Translated by Margaret Hunt Over 200 Tales from the Brothers Grimm Children s and Household Tales is a collection of German fairy tales first published in 1812 by the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. The collection is commonly known in English as Grimm s Fairy Tales. The first volume of the first edition was published in 1812, containing 86 stories; the second volume of 70 stories followed in 1815. For the second edition, two volumes were issued in 1819 and a third in 1822, totalling 170 tales. The third edition appeared in 1837; fourth edition, 1840; fifth edition, 1843; sixth edition, 1850; seventh edition, 1857. Stories were added, and also subtracted, from one edition to the next, until the seventh held 211 tales. The first volumes were much criticized because, although they were called Children s Tales, they were not regarded as suitable for children, both for the scholarly information included and the subject matter. Many changes through the editions - such as turning the wicked mother of the first edition in Snow White and Hansel and Gretel (shown in original Grimm stories as Hansel and Grethel) to a stepmother, were probably made with an eye to such suitability. They removed sexual references-such as Rapunzel s innocently asking why her dress was getting tight around her belly, and thus naively revealing to the fairy her pregnancy and the prince s visits-but, in many respects, violence, particularly when punishing villains, was increased. Item Description: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2017. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Grimm s Household Tales Brothers Grimm Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Translated by Margaret Hunt 209 Tales Children s and Household Tales is a collection of German fairy tales first published in 1812 by the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. The collection is commonly known in English as Grimm s Fairy Tales. The popularity of the Grimms best folk tales has endured well. The tales are available in more than 100 languages and have been later adapted by filmmakers including Lotte Reiniger and Walt Disney, with films such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty. During the 1930s and 40s, the tales were used as propaganda by the Third Reich; later in the 20th century psychologists such as Bruno Bettelheim reaffirmed the value of the work, in spite of the cruelty and violence in original versions of some of the tales, which the Grimms eventually sanitized. In old times when wishing still helped one, there lived a king whose daughters were all beautiful, but the youngest was so beautiful that the sun itself, which has seen so much, was astonished whenever it shone in her face. Close by the King s castle lay a great dark forest, and under an old lime-tree in the forest was a well, and when the day was very warm, the King s child went out into the forest and sat down by the side of the cool fountain, and when she was dull she took a golden ball, and threw it up on high and caught it, and this ball was her favorite plaything. Item Description: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2016. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. These fairy tales by brothers Grimm are based on the original 1884 translation Household Tales of Margaret Hunt. She did this, but it was easy to see that she did not do it willingly. The frog enjoyed what he ate, but almost every mouthful she took choked her. At length he said, I have eaten and am satisfied; now I am tired, carry me into thy little room and make thy little silken bed ready, and we will both lie down and go to sleep. The King s daughter began to cry, for she was afraid of the cold frog which she did not like to touch, and which was now to sleep in her pretty, clean little bed. But the King grew angry and said, He who helped thee when thou wert in trouble ought not afterwards to be despised by thee. So she took hold of the frog with two fingers, carried him upstairs, and put him in a corner. But when she was in bed he crept to her and said, I am tired, I want to sleep as well as thou, lift me up or I will tell thy father. Then she was terribly angry, and took him up and threw him with all her might against the wall. Now, thou wilt be quiet, odious frog, Bookseller Inventory # APC9781537452050
