Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Early edition of Dr. Karl Krueger's sensational (and probably false) account of his 15 years as Hitler's personal physician, with an introduction by Otto Strasser and a special introduction by Upton Sinclair. Likely more propaganda than factual information, this book delves into Hitler's health and mental state, allegedly from the perspective of his personal physician. While the author, Kurt Krueger, remains an enigma, authorship has been attributed to everyone from Hitler's former close friend Ernst Hanfstaengl to a ghostwriter employed by the publisher. Although the text is pleasingly insulting to Hitler and a bit outrageous in parts, it does shed valuable light on conditions within the Third Reich and the unquestionable brutality of the Nazi regime. Even though "Dr. Krueger" may have been made up, Hitler has been persistently dogged by some of the medical allegations made in the text, including both syphilis and impotence. The first edition appears to have been published in 1942. Book very good, with a bit of rubbing and faint soiling to extremities. Bright dust jacket near-fine, with only slight rubbing and a couple tiny stains to extremities. A very presentable copy in dust jacket.

Previous owner's rubber name stamp on the inside of the front cover along with original Australian bookseller's italic sticker at the bottom right of the same. No other damage to describe. There is an introduction by Otto Strasser and a foreword by Upton Sinclair. "Because the author of this volume treats Hitler as a human being with all the failings of the mind and the frailties of the flesh, he will probably be attacked as an impostor and forward by certain critics and readers who cling to Hitler, the myth, the cloudy creature floating in the sky of the neurotic West. Like the Greeks, they would rather indirect a shrine to their unknown God or anti-God, praise or cursing, and subject the ex-human Fuhrer to the merciless probing of the psychoanalyst." Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 8vo. Pp. xxiv, 25-322. Bound in full green cloth with black lettering stamped on spine. Fore-edge untrimmed. Very slight age-toning to leaves. In the illustrated dust jacket, which is defective: large chip on rear panel, rear flap nearly detached, old cello tape repairs on verso. Dust jacket is now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve. A propaganda piece, published at the height of WWII, intended to belittle Hitler and warn the world of his Caesar-complex. Includes frank accounts of his sex life, peccadilloes, experiences with impotence and syphilis, his attraction to Jewish prostitutes, etc. We are uncertain whether the book addresses Hitler's purported monorchism, memorialized in the WWII British military song, "Hitler Has Only Got One Ball." The dust jacket designed by Irving Politzer captures the sensational-exploitative nature of the psychoanalytic study of Hitler's worldview, with special focus on his sexual inclinations. .
