A little fraying on spine, bottom corners bumped, slipcase missing spine panel, is frayed and has a one inch tear, tiny stain on side edge, else text clean, binding tight. This copy number 643 of 1500, signed by illustrator Lynd Ward on limitation page. VERY GOOD in slipcase. Pages clean and totally unmarked. Light bump to upper corner of book has caused small, light corner creases to a few leaves but overall, pages are fine. Leather half-bound with red cloth. Gilt decoration of knight stamped to leather on front cover, gilt lettering on spine. Upper outside corners lightly bumped, leather at spine ends rubbed with some small chipping, a few light scratches to spine leather, otherwise cover is clean and fresh. In original Slipcase of marbled paper over boards and paper title label on spine is clean and intact though darkened along edges and spine, some tearing and chipping along joints. 6-3/4 x 10-3/4"; xix + 284 text pages and limitation leaf. Item Description: no publisher, [London, 1873. A single sheet folded to make four pages, Signed by Tennyson at the conclusion. Good, with tears from old folds expertly repaired with Japanese tissue, including a tear over the final letter in the author's signature, unfolded to prevent further wear. This poem was added as a dedicatory epilogue to the collected Idylls of the King in Strahan's library edition of Tennyson's works in 1872 (Idyll was published in various fragment and combinations between 1842 and 1888). Wise (1908) 1,; 224, no. 126, per OCLC. A fragile and rare publication, OCLC cites no libraries with this printing, and no copies have appeared at auction in the past quarter century.
