Inscribed by Dr Seuss on the verso of the front free end-paper: For Jed/ who DOES run/ the circus/ Dr Seuss. With his usual squiggle/flourish above his signature. The recipient of the inscription. Jed [Mattes] was a prominent literary agent who worked for Theodore Geisel s (Dr Seuss ) long term agent, Phyllis Jackson. After Jackson died in 1977, Mattes took over Geisel s representation.
