Belle édition vénitienne par sa présentation typographique : le texte latin, en italiques, est encadré par le commentaire en italien du linguiste toscan Giovanni Fabrini (1517-1580), dans une typographie différente. La deuxième partie contient l'interpretation de la langue vulgaire et la troisième des observations latines sur Terence de Giovanni Fabrini. Belle marque au titre avec un chat tenant dans sa gueule une souris. Mouillures claires au 2 derniers feuillets et très petit manque de papier page de titre.

Marca editoriale xilografica al frontespizio. Frontalino, iniziali e piccoli fregi silografici. Aloni diffusi, lievi fioriture, alcune carte un po' brunite. Note manoscritte al verso di c. A3; note di possesso, di cui una cassata, al frontespizio. Piena pergamena coeva o di poco posteriore con nome degli autori e piccolo fregio vergati al margine superiore del dorso. Piccole mancanze marginali ai piatti.
Rilegato. Condition: ottimo. Due parti in un vol. in 4°. Marca del Valgrisi al front. Margini uniformemente rifilati, senza perdita, una lievissima gora in fondo allangolo inferiore, discreto esemplare in legatura piena pergamena rigida antica, titolo su tassello al dorso. Buona edizione del commento e traduzione composti da Fabrini da Figline allopera del celebre commediografo romano. Fu senza dubbio la versione di maggiore successo in tutto il XVI secolo con ben otto ristampe. Very good copy of this important translation, frequently reprinted during the XVI Century. Firme d'appartenenza al frontespizio, ma buon esemplare. (6300) Prima edizione, alquanto rara, apparsa a Venezia stranamente senza indicazione di stampatore (ma alcune caratteristiche tipografiche fanno pensare a Comin da Trino). Questo volgarizzamento di Terenzio è di notevole interesse per la storia della lingua italiana, come si rileva dalla fittissima mole di commenti che lo corredano; inoltre contiene al termine il testo del Fabbrini Della interpretatione della lingua Latina per via della Toscana, che era già apparso a sè stante in una rara edizione romana del 1544, e qui ripubblicato con qualche variante, in appendice a Terenzio. Esso è diviso in tre libri: "Il primo tratta di tutti i significati in volgare delle parole che in latino si trovano nel caso nominativo; il secondo riguarda i significati in volgare delle parole che in latino si trovano nel caso genitivo. il terzo è relativo al significato in volgare delle parole che in latino si trovano nel caso dativo" (D.B.I., XLIII/p. 663). Nei volgarizzamenti di Virgilio e di Terenzio "risulta preminente nel F. l'interesse di carattere linguistico, con il quale si inserisce pienamente nel dibattito culturale in corso agli inizi del sec. XVI. La ricerca e lo studio del F. furono infatti rivolti, da un lato, a stabilire un metodo di insegnamento grammaticale che consentisse un più pratico apprendimento delle lingue classiche. dall'altro a proseguire nel tentativo - già iniziato da Pietro Bembo - di elevare la lingua volgare alla dignità di quella latina attraverso lo studio e la codificazione delle relative regole sintattiche e grammaticali" (Ibid.). Giovanni Fabbrini, di Figline Valdarno (1516-80), letterato e umanista, studiò e insegnò a Roma, e nel 1547 si trasferì a Venezia, dedicandosi alla istruzione grammaticale e umanistica di diversi giovani patrizi veneziani. Mantenne sempre i contatti con la corte medicea e per vivere esercitò anche l'attività mercatoria. Vastisima fu la sua attività di volgarizzatore dei classici latini, collaborando con diversi editori veneziani e lasciando anche molti testi inediti. Curiosa al fine di quest'opera la lettera ad un amico fiorentino con cui rivendica orgogliosamente l'appartenenza alla sua patria d'origine, Fighine. Volume in 4 antico, legatura posteriore in piena pergamena rigida, sguardie, frontespizio, dedicatoria di Giovanni Fabrini a Cosimo de' Medici, 5 carte non numerate, 324 cc. (648 pp.), comprensive della trattazione sulla interpretazione della lingua volgare e di quella latina, composta dal medesimo. Testo latino in corsivo, chiose che lo circondano in bel romano tondo. Deliziosi capilettera ornati, arricchiscono il testo all'inizio di ognuna delle commedie. davvero una magnifica edizione questa, corredata dal commento di uno fra i pi accreditati studiosi e conoscitori dell'opera di Terenzio oltre che della linguistica. D'una ricchezza incredibile il commento che chiarisce ed illumina la forma latina, la rende nelle pi recondite pieghe aggiungendo preziose ed esaustive spiegazioni e chiose. Bella impaginazione a grandi margini, stampato su carta ben nerbata e frusciante, sola cosa da segnalare, la brunitura della carta al margine inferiore, che, pi accentuata e pi allargata nelle pagine centrali, va via via sbiadendo per lasciare il posto ad una lieve gora, mai affaticante la lettura. Indubbiamente rara, importante prima edizione.

Mancanza di pelle al dorso alla parte superiore e inferiore, abrasioni e graffi ai piatti. Pregevole miscellanea di commedie del'500 in legatura strettamente coeva, meritevole di un restauro. Dorso a nervi ornato e dorato (manca il tassello di titolo). Piccola mancanza di pelle al margine del piatto anteriore; cerniera fissurata per 4 cm al basso. Tagli dorati. Ex libris Sdt. Ange al retro del piatto. Firma di possesso al retro della risguardia di Eugene de Boucheman (lieutenant de chevalerie, regisseur du chateau de Versailles). Bell'esemplare fresco, senza bruniture, con margini un po' corti, soprattutto in testa, ma senza mai raggiungere i caratteri a stampa.
