Inscribed in volume one: "To C.M.W. Hughes \ from his affectionate cousin \ ? ? Worsley \ February 8th 1872", and in volume two "C.M.W. Hughes \ February 8th 1872." Worsley provided the bulk of the translation, but died before the second volume was publisher whereafter Connington took over. Matching numbers, in the original orange slipcases (no splits), pages never opened (uncut). Books very near fine -- very faint water stain on the bottom of the spine of the Iliad. Contents completely free of foxing, deckled edges clean and unharmed, top edges gilt. Cloth of both books is clear and bright, as are the gilt titles. Both volumes printed in Holland and signed by the great Dutch typographer Jan Van Krimpen. Original slipcaes with minor wear, no splits to the boxes but a little paper splitting to the surfaces (and a little fading to the Odyssey spine), overall VG+.
