There was graft on a colossal scale and peril waiting those who in the slightest way incurred royal displeasure. But there was too, soft music, subtle perfume, excitement and romance within the walls of The Forbidden City.' Chapters include: Her Majesty's Wardrobe, Court Cookery, TheTravelling Throne Room, Court Ladies and Serving Maids, The Imperial Residence, Imperial Flowers, The Royal Kennels and The Buddha's Dressing Table. With six colour illustrations by Bertha Lumn and black and white illustrations at the head of each chapter by the same artist. Size: 15 x 22 cms or 6 x 8 3/4 inches. Page number: 288. Hardcover. Purple cloth boards with gilt lettering on the front and spine The jacket is purple and gold with lettering in black. Condition of book: Very Good. The boards are bright, clean and only slightly worn. The pages within are clean having the appearance of being unread. Two pages, one at the front and one and the back, are age toned. There is some fading to the top of the spine. Condition of jacket: Very Good. The jacket is creased at the corners and there is loss to the folds and to the top and bottom of the spine in particular. A heavy book. Additional postage will be required for overseas delivery.
