One of one thousand copies (this copy numbered 2, possibly a later hand, not that of the forger). 1 vols. Small 4vo. NOT SIGNED BY WILDE. One of the crown jewels of the English theatre -- which is saying a lot -- and the greatest English farce of the last 150 years.The provenance of this copy, with its forged signature, is the famed Max Miller collection. Miller was a New York doctor and eclectic collector, to whom dealers on Fourth Avenue frequently resorted when they were short of money. The collection was dispersed in 1990. Mason (Millard) 381 Mauve cloth, decorated in gilt. Cloth somewhat soiled and smudged, spine dulled with extremities worn. Brentano's ticket at back. About very good.
