About this Item: George Allen & Unwin, London, 1957. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. The interior of the book is clean and tight. There is a former owner's name on the front free end paper, and a small bookseller's stamp, and just a few signs of previous use. The green covers are clean, with light wear visible at edges and corners. The silver gilt spine lettering is still bright. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, and is in good condition, with light chipping at the top and bottom of the spine, a closed tear (about 2 inches long) on the top of the front panel, and wear and several marks on the back panel. See the attached scan for a better idea of condition. Synopsis: After parting from Edmund Hillary's main expedition, Hardie and his Sherpa companions walked to the small village of Khumjung, where he lived for many months, sharing the lives of the Sherpa inhabitants, their food, homes, and traditional activities. Later he was joined by his wife while he carried out a survey of the locality. The book is illustrated with many photos taken by the Hardies. Seller Inventory # 006057

About this Item: George Allen & Unwin Ltd, 1957. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 1st edition, hardback w/color frontis & black and white photos and drawings in the text. I would call the book near fine except for a half inch snipped off the corner of the rear end paper. The d/j has edge nicks and is browning at the folds, the front panel slightly faded but is very presentable in mylar cover. Seller Inventory # W 623 BB

About this Item: George Allen & Unwin Ltd, London, 1957. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. 190 pages; glossary; index; 16 illustrations all taken from photographs by the author and his wife Enid Hardie. "In 1955 Norman Hardie, fellow countryman and climbing comrade of Sir Edmond Hillary, was one of those who stood at the summit of Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain of the world. This was the culminating triumph of his mountaineering career, but it was not until the mountain was descended that his private adventure began" and this is where his book carries us. The condition of the book is probably better than I have described .The dj is worn about the edges with the usual slight depressions at the top and end of the spine. There is a one inch tear at the bottom front right corner of the dj but it is a minor intrusion. Some very faint pen scratches (appears to be from a quill pen)are on the title page. The frontispiece is in colour and the remaining illustrations are black and white. There is a map showing the author's journey. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover. Seller Inventory # 000509
