Item Description: Random House. Book Condition: Used - Very Good. 1967. Orig. illus. wraps. Unpaginated. Profusely illus., and adorned with inclusions, inserts, pop-ups and other ingenious devices. Some edge-wear to wraps, but quite sound overall. There are several common condition issues: the balloon, as expected, has deteriorated and stuck two leaves together where it was inserted (they can be opened most of the way, however). The phonographic record with Lou Reed's image is present but has been detached from its perforations. The pop-up trapezoid, however, is missing; only its string remains. Other inclusions, such as the pop-up castle, the biplane, and the accordion, are in excellent shape. Bookseller Inventory # S63430

Item Description: New York: Black Star Book, Random House, 1967, 1967. Warhol's exuberant artist's book is filled with surprises. The following items are accounted for: 1) castle pop-up in fine condition; 2) red accordion (attached at both ends but silent now); 3) biplane in fine conditon; 4) Chelsea Girls disc in fine condition, but lacking spring mounting; 5) the pages containing the folded polyhedron have been opened, and it is attached to the lefthand page near the gutter with a black thread and a round, white sticker; 6) Lou Reed record in its mounting, but detached from binding; 7) multi-colored, 3-panel nose pop-up in fine condition; 8) Hunt's Tomato Paste pop-up in fine condition; 9) 6 (of 8) Andy Warhol "Surprise" tabs present. That page bears a shadow in its original size and shape of the silver balloon that was laid into each copy as part of the production. That balloon, long since melted, as usual, now partially seals together the following doublespread of a cityscape. If a postcard ever was present, it is gone now. The rest of the book consists mostly of high-contrast, black-and-white photographs of Warhol's crowd and events in The Factory. Silver on black "Brillo" design on stiff paper covers. [76] pp. 27.9 x 21.5 cm. Covers and edges less worn than usual. Another copy available at $350. Accompanying photo is that copy. Bookseller Inventory # 34287

Item Description: Random House, New York, 1967. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. A handsome copy of the 1967 stated 1st printing of this seminal artist's book, cited by both Andrew Roth and Martin Parr as among the most influential photo/artists' books of the century. This copy, while boasting a very bright front cover (with crisp, completely unflecked silver lettering along the spine), is missing 2 of its 10 original multiples/objects. Included are: the castle pop-up; the red accordion (which doesn't squeak); the bi-plane pop-up; "The Chelsea Girls" paper wheel (unattached); the Velvet Underground/Lou Reed record (attached); the double-image rainbow nose; the Hunt's Tomato Paste pop-up; and the balloon (inevitably smushed down, as in virtually every copy). Missing are: the 12-sided "sphere" and the 8 rectangular tear-offs. Nonetheless, a respectable, solid copy, and in the much less common hardback. Tight and VG to VG+, with light scuffing and soiling to the rear panel. The page opposite the Velvet Underground/Lou Reed record was roughly handled and does show some minor tearing; otherwise, the interior is very clean. (From the title page: "with the assistance of Stephen Shore, Paul Morrissey, Ondine, Nico -- several photographs by Nat Finkelstein, Factory Fotos by Billy Name"). Bookseller Inventory # 13265
