About this Item: Lugduni, apud Hugonem, & haeredes Aemonis á Porta, 1545 (in fine: Ludguni, excudebat Balthazar Arnoullet, 1545), in-folio, il volume conserva la legatura originale antica dei fascicoli, ma è privo di copertine e dorso, pp. [36], 1090, [2], l'ultima carta bianca. Con bella marca xilografica sul front. e una grande xilografia a piena pagina. Impresso in rosso e nero. I primi tre fascicoli (aa-cc6) sciolti. La carta Ss2 con lungo strappo trasversale restaurato con nastro adesivo. Mancanze ai margini dovute a tarli lungo tutto il volume. Due tavv. ripiegate f.t con Arbor Iurisdictionum e Arbor Servitutum al primo vol delle Pandette; al colophon dello stesso vol.: "Alexander Gryphius, sumtibus Societatis aquilae se renovantis, excudebat". Al colophon del secondo vol. delle Pandette: "Petrus Deuchinus, sumptibus Societatis aquilae se renovantis, excudebat". Corpus Iuris Civilis Iustinianeum così completo. Le prime carte del primo vol. e dei due voll del Digestum vetus sono rifilate fino a toccare i titoli correnti, altrimenti pur non ampi di margini, i tagli dei volumi sono corretti; alcuni rari quaderni leggermente bruniti; un antico restauro al margine inferiore di una quindicina di carte, senza perdita di testo, alcune dotte glosse di antico giurista al margine delle Novellae. Frontespizio foderato e alcune macchie (inchiostro?) a pochissime carte del primo vol. del Digestum vetus; due carte del secondo vol. dello stesso con segni di antiche bruciature ma ancora perfettamente leggibili. (Papier stellenw. leicht gebräunt, einige Bll. ausgebessert und vereinzelte Wurmgänge, nur an wenigen Stellen mit minimalem Textverlust). Das gesamte Corpus Juris Civilis mit der Accursischen Glosse in der handlichen und berühmten venezianischen Ausgabe, Ex Libris WDH Asser, Trinity College, Cambridge. - Die Ausgabe ist mit der Littera Florentina abgeglichen: "cum Pandectis Florentinis collatus". Druckerzentrum der großen glossierten Ausgaben der Justinianischen Gesetzbücher war zunächst Venedig, wechselte aber anfangs des 16. Jahrhunderts nach Lyon. In Venedig wurden weiterhin die vor allem für die Rechtspraxis ausgerichteten handlicheren Quartausgaben gedruckt. Im 16. Jahrhundert, als das Jus Romanum in ganz Europa rezipiert worden ist, entstand ein "Weltmarkt" für glossierte Corpus-juris-civilis-Ausgaben. Waren es Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts vor allem italienische Verlage und Drucker, die den Markt mit Editionen versorgten, so entwickelte sich allmählich durch seine günstige Verkehrslage Lyon zum Druckzentrum der großvolumigen Corpus-iuris-civilis-Ausgaben. Nur Venedig konnte sich auf Dauer auf dem Markt behaupten, denn der große Absatzmarkt war Europa, jenseits der Alpen. Der Grund für den Erfolg der venezianischen Ausgabe war eine Marktnische, die die Verleger der Lagunenstadt entdeckt haben, nämlich die handlich-praktischen Quartausgaben für Rechtsanwälte und Gerichte. Ein weiterer Vorteil war auch, daß ab Mitte des 16. Jahrhunderts die Universität der Stadt Venedig (Padua) die zentrale Ausbildungsstätte zumindest für die protestantischen deutschen Studenten in Italien wurde. Dies verhalf den venezianischen Druckern zu einigem Erfolg, und viele dieser venezianischen Ausgaben standen auf den Schreibtischen deutscher Rechtspraktiker. - Digestum Vetus: (Lib. 1-23): Tb., 87nn. Glossierte Ausgabe der Digesten in drei Bänden, die erste aus dem Hause Merlin in Paris, 1559 (spätere Ausgaben 1566 und 1576). Zugleich erster Nachdruck der zuerst 1553 in Florenz erschienenen, von Lelio Torelli herausgegebenen Florentiner Digestenhandschrift, von der - ungeachtet mancher Korrekturen durch die spätere Textforschung - bis heute alle kritischen Ausgaben der Digesten ausgehen. Gleichfalls erschienen in demselben Verlag 1559 die übrigen Teile des Corpus iuris civilis, ebenfalls mit Glosse, darunter Codex und Novellen zum ersten Mal in der kritischen Bearbeitung durch Antonius Contius.
