The transcriptions of petitions, early publicity and plaques of or about Laura, her husband James and their children – and from a British officer, James FitzGibbon – give insights into Secord family opportunities and their financial status. The 700 direct descendants of Laura Secord to the eighth generation, or present day, are also listed. Laura Ingersoll Secord performed an act of heroism, extraordinary and courageous espionage conducted by a woman in wartime from behind enemy lines. It took a sensitive Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, and later the Prince of Wales, to recognize Laura Secord’s heroism and her contribution to the British wartime cause in 1813. Her bravery and exemplary life epitomize the way ordinary loyalists lived with strife on the Niagara frontier in the early nineteenth century."---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo. Washington D.C. An autograph letter signed “J R Ingersoll” as a Representative from Pennsylvania. Addressed to Philadelphia lawyer William Morris Meredith (1799-1873), at this time President of the Philadelphia Select Council and later to become U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. The letter concerns an important case in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court â€" Commonwealth vs. Allmyer, concerning rights to Franklin Square in Philadelphia. “My Dear Sir Your bulletin this moment received gives me much solicitude. I do not see the possibility of my absenting myself during the whole of the next week which (at least) would be the consequence of my entrusting with you in the trial of Com vs Allmyer. I must hope that the chapter of accidents aided by the constitutional reluctance of the Chief Justice to urge business will prevent what is extremely mystifying to me a trail in my absence. Should it be unavoidably â€" Charles…will give you all the aid he can if you desire it. I have written to him to hold himself in readiness for any call. Very faithfully yrs J R Ingersoll”. Commonwealth vs. Allmyer went to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court four days later, on March 14, 1836, with Meredith as the lead council for the Commonwealth; the case was decided in the Commonwealth’s favor one month later.
