GASPARRI, Francesco Maria. - Nacque a Roma il 16 genn. 1680 da Giovanbattista.Compé gli studi nel Collegio romano presso i padri della Compagnia di Gesé e, dopo essersi applicato alla retorica, discusse non ancora quindicenne le tesi nella facolté di filosofia. Iscrittosi quindi alla facolté di giurisprudenza dell'Archiginnasio romano della Sapienza, nel 1698 fu nominato per concorso professore di istituzioni civili, tenendo in seguito anche le cattedre di istituzioni canoniche e criminali. Nel 1699 fu chiamato a insegnare nel seminario romano, dove ebbe come uditori moltissimi nobili e insigni prelati.Risale a questi anni la composizione delle sue prime opere di carattere giuridico: le Institutiones iuris canonici, Romae 1702, in due volumi (ristampate a Roma nel 1711 e a Venezia nel 1739 in quattro volumi); le Institutiones iuris civilis, Romae 1707 (ripubblicate a Venezia nel 1772); le Institutiones iuris criminalis, Romae 1741 (ristampate a Roma nel 1778).Dotato di vasta erudizione e di vocazione poetica, nel 1702 fu aggregato, con il nome pastorale di Eurindo Olimpiaco, all'Arcadia, della quale frequenté per trentatré anni le adunanze, entrando a far parte del Collegio dei XII. Successivamente, fu ascritto anche ad altri consessi accademici: agli Apatisti e alla Crusca di Firenze; agli Intronati di Siena; agli Assorditi di Urbino; agli Umoristi e agli Infecondi di Roma; ai Rinvigoriti di Foligno. Fu membro, inoltre, di diversi altri istituti scientifici e letterari. Fu prescelto come maestro di legge dal principe Filippo Maurizio di Baviera, allora a Roma. Clemente XI gli offré un vescovado, ma egli preferé il matrimonio e sposé nel 1715 Teresa Morei, dalla quale ebbe quattro figli, due maschi e due femmine. Successivamente alle nozze, il granduca di Toscana Cosimo III lo nominé suo avvocato in Roma, insieme con P. Vecchi e I. Lanfredini. Nel 1719, alla morte dell'avvocato G.B. Zappi, fu eletto assessore dell'Agricoltura da papa Clemente XI. Tenne la carica, con soddisfazione della Curia, fino al 1727, quando Benedetto XIII lo nominé secondo collaterale di Campidoglio, magistratura giudiziaria cui erano connessi i titoli di conte e cavaliere palatino, oltre che di nobile romano.Fu uditore del cardinale, camerlengo dal 1719, Alessandro Albani, nipote di Clemente XI, gié scolaro del G. nel seminario romano e quindi suo mecenate. In tale veste si occupé del governo di Frascati, di Castel Gandolfo, di Soriano, feudo degli Albani, e di altre localité sotto la loro giurisdizione. Accudiva inoltre gli affari del vescovado di Sabina, del capitolo vaticano e di varie comunité dello Stato della Chiesa. Studiava per le congregazioni del S. Uffizio, dei Riti, del S. Concilio e della Fabbrica di S. Pietro.Alterné agli impegni civili l'amore per le belle lettere: le sue poesie furono applauditissime in Arcadia, grazie anche alle sue doti di declamatore. Molto apprezzato fu il sonetto in lode di Clemente XI Son gié sei lustri. Nel 1717 compose la cantata che usualmente era eseguita la notte di Natale, nel palazzo apostolico, dai musici della Cappella Sistina con tutti gli strumenti della sala Borgia. Un'altra sua cantata (La Tigrena, favola pastorale, Roma 1724), musicata dal maestro Francesco Gasparini, fu eseguita con successo il 2 genn. 1724 nel palazzo dell'ambasciatore del Portogallo e quindi dinanzi al S. Collegio e alla prelatura.Le sue Rime varie sono inserite tra le Rime degli Arcadi illustri, Faenza 1784; una sua canzone si legge nei Giuochi olimpici celebrati dagli Arcadi per l'ingresso dell'olimpiade DCXXVI, Roma 1726, p. 61. Pubblicé inoltre: In anniversario funere Leonis X. Oratio habita in ecclesia romana Sapientiae, Romae 1698; Sensi di devozione nelle presenti calamité spiegati in varii sonetti, Roma 1703; Lo stato geografico della Marca di Ancona per l'intendimento delle tre bolle di Sisto V, Roma 1726.Moré a Roma l'8 ag. 1735 e fu sepolto nella chiesa dei Ss.
