Item Description: London Magazine Editions, London, 1967. Book Condition: Very Good. Book. 185 x 185 mm, 195 pp. Hard cover. Designed and printed by Shenval Press. Printed black and invariably orange on white stock. Compiled by the movement's foremost critic, this was the first anthology of Concrete Poetry to be published in Britain, and can thereby be seen as the catalyst that spawned an interest in the art form, and particularly its previously unheard of South American practitioners, such as Decio Pignatari and Haraldo de Campos. Comes with a substantial introduction by Bann, which reads: 'We would do well to apply to Concrete Poetry the criteria which are all too readily waived in poetic criticism, and to ask, not whether the abandonment of discursive speech qualifies it to be classed as poetry or painting, but under what terms and according to what inherent principles it may be classed as Art'; as well as works by British, European, South American and American artists, such as: Eugen Gomringer, Hansjorg Mayer, Ernst Jandl, Decio Pignatari, Haraldo de Campos, Augusto de Campos, Pedro Xisto, Mathias Goeritz, Pierre Garnier, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Dom Sylvester Houedard, John Furnival, Stephen Bann, Edwin Morgan, Emmett Williams, Robert Lax et al. Also features short biographies and publication information for each of the featured concrete poets. Condition: Some general wear, scuffing and stain marks to cover and spine; contents remarkably fresh and clean. Without its glascine dust jacket. Minor pen annotation to first two pages, otherwise VG. Bookseller Inventory # 001174
