Item Description: Houghton Mifflin Company, New York, 1926. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good Plus. Four volumes (I & II published in 1926, III and IV in 1928), in brick-red publisher's cloth, with gilt signature to front boards, and gilt lettering to spines. All volumes very good plus with just a hint of rubbing to extremities. Charles Seymour's signature and date (February 10, 1927, to title page of Volume I. Very tight and bright set. Vol. I 552 pp.; Vol. II 508 pp.; Vol. III 453 pp.; Vol. IV 552 pp.). These are the recollections and notes from the papers of Colonel Edward Mandell House, a key politician, diplomat and presidential advisor to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. They were presented to Yale University sometime in 1924 or 1925, and Yale historian Charles Seymour was tasked with editing and selecting the most significant of these, which eventually comprised these four volumes. They are not meant to be an accurate portrayal of history, and make no claim to be anything but the private papers ofColonel House (a term of respect and honor, not connected to any military service or title).
